Although thought of as "wild", the landscape of the Scottish Highlands has been constantly changed and adapted by people.

The landscape on the west and north is very much one of smaller scale crofting, with larger farms bordering the east coast. These

agricultural landscapes are as important to the character of the Scottish Highlands as the rugged peaks and wave-sculpted coastline.
